The Redwater Health Centre is a 21 bed accredited facility (14 acute care beds and 7 continuing care beds). This facility opened its’ doors on January 1st, 1973 to serve Redwater and the surrounding communities.
The Health Centre (acute care and continuing care) employs approximately 103 full-time, part-time, and casual staff in the following departments: Administration, Emergency/Acute Care Nursing/Continuing Care, Lab/X-ray, Health Records, Pharmacy, Admitting, Social Work, Education, Environmental Services, Stores, Nutrition and Food Services, Maintenance, and Rehabilitation Services (Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Respiratory therapy),.
The facility provides 24 hour emergency services, seven days a week and is presently served by three full-time physicians (Dr. F. Erasmus, Dr. G. Mouton & Dr. T. Van Der Walt), and one part-time physician (Dr. M. Erasmus).
Ambulance Services are provided by Alberta Health Services.
Community Health Services and Home Care services are also located within the Redwater Health Centre.
The Health Centre strives to provide high quality care and services within the resources available and programs approved by the Alberta Health Services.

Palliative Care:
Support and care is provided to those who are in the final stages of an incurable illness. The goal is not to provide treatment aimed at curing the illness, rather, it is treatment aimed at making the final stages of life the best quality possible.
Continuing Care Program:
Six Continuing Care beds were opened on March 7th, 2006. This project was made possible through the Health Sustainability Initiative (HSI) Government Funding. We opened one more Continuing Care bed on June 16th, 2008.
Application for Continuing Care services for Acute Care patients is initiated by the Care Coordinator. The Care Coordinator determines the patient’s level of care by way of assessment and through collaboration with the care team and family.

Nutritional Counseling:
A dietitian is available to provide nutritional counseling for in-patients, out-patients, community and a diabetes education program onsite.
Social Worker:
The Social Worker is at the Redwater Health Centre on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Services provided: Source of Referral, Assessment, Counselling/Advocacy, Education, Coordination/Liaison, and Follow-Up.
Diagnostic Services:
Redwater Health Centre – 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday for Lab and X-ray Services.
Laboratory Requisitions from all regions will be accepted at our facility.
Mental Health Services:
Leonard Thiessen, Mental Health Therapist provides counselling services one day per week (Wednesdays) at Redwater, either through physician or self-referral. Counselling services include crisis intervention (e.g. suicide risk assessments, urgent assessments); mental illness based counselling such as depression, biopolar, schizophrenia, etc.
Warren Krywko, Children’s Mental Health Therapist provides counseling for children, adolescents and their families at the Redwater Health Centre on Tuesdays, or more often in response to the needs. Self-referrals, family, school, and physician referrals are welcome.

Optometrist Services:
Dr. Barry Nolt, Optometrist opened an office at the Redwater Health Centre in February, 1996. He comes on Tuesday afternoons and provides total optometry services to the residents of Redwater, Thorhild, Radway, Gibbons, and surrounding communities. These services include eye examinations, ocular health assessments, spectacle therapy, and contact lens therapy. Pastoral Care Services:
Pastoral Care is provided on request of patients.
P.A.R.T.Y. Program:
The Redwater and District P.A.R.T.Y. (Prevent Alcohol and Risk Related Trauma in Youth) Program provides programs at the facility for students from Redwater and the surrounding area schools.
Telehealth Technology:
Telehealth Technology (an application of videoconferencing to provide services when distance separates each party) is available. Telehealth can be applied to three broad types of activities: Clinical, Education and Administration.
Clinical/Student Placements:
The Redwater Health Centre accepts Clinical/Student Placements such as RNs, LPNs, Nursing Attendants, Unit Clerks, EMTs, Rehab, Food and Nutrition, and Pharmacy.
Home Care Sub-Office is located within our facility. The Home Care Base Office is located at the Morinville Provincial Building. Base Office Staffing includes RNs/LPNs/Program Assistants and Home Support Aides to provide:

Redwater Health Centre Auxiliary:
The Health Centre Auxiliary, formed in 1973 provides volunteer services and is our fund-raising organization, with a current membership of approximately 20 members. They also provide patient tray favors for special occasions, conduct kindergarten tours, and provide items for sale in the display case. |
