In general the purpose of the Municipal Planning Commission (MPC) is to assist the Council with orderly planning and development within the confines of the Town’s Municipal Development Plan and Land Use Bylaw.  This includes reviewing Application for Development which are discretionary to the requirements of the Land Use Bylaw and for permitted uses where a relaxation or a variance of a regulation is required.  Their role also includes reviewing various subdivision applications to make recommendations to the Subdivision Authority.

The Municipal Planning Commission is made up of three council representatives and two members-at-large.  These two members-at-large must be residents of the Town and are appointed by council annually.  The MPC carries on the duties of the Development Authority. The Development Authority is required through legislation.

The number of times this committee meets will generally be one time per month; however, it is dependent upon the number of applications received by central office which require their review.  The time this committee meets is established by the Commission members.
